St. Petersburg is the administrative center of the North- West Federal District. It was founded in 1703 by Peter I. In the period from 1712 to 1918 it was the capital of the Russian Empire.

Northern Capital today enjoys almost all varieties of public transport. Here there are trolleybuses and buses and trams, and an extensive network of subway. The fare on the first 3 of them is 21 rubles ($ 0.6). The fare for 1 badge in Petersburg metro is 25 rubles ($ 0.75). All children up to 8 years, admission is free.

The warmest month is July (average temperature is 18.8 °C), while the coldest one is February (average temperature is 6.1 °C).

Today in St. Petersburg doctors, IT- specialists, as well as workers and service personnel specialties can easily find a job. Wages are higher here than in the regions, but lower than in Moscow. On top of this city is known as the cultural capital of the Russian Federation. Yet we can easily name it perhaps as the most European city among all Russian.

The city has about 8500 objects of cultural heritage. There are almost 10% of all Russian monuments. In St. Petersburg, there are over 200 museums and their branches. Among them are the world- famous Hermitage Museum, which hosts about 3 million of various monuments and works of art of world culture. Everything else the city is considered one of the most reading one. This was clearly confirmed in 1100 libraries located on its territory. In St. Petersburg there are more than 50 different theaters. Every year the city hosts about 1,000 exhibitions and 300 festivals. Naturally, there are also a huge number of various restaurants, snack bars, cafes, bars and dance floors. As in many cities, life in St. Petersburg goes on 24 hours a day.

People of creative professions come in this city often enough. Here good conditions were created for them. In addition the northern capital is one of the most interesting tourist centers, so for fans of monuments, museums and other historic sites here is a real paradise.
