2 The ship was laid down on 25 August 1956 in the shipyard to A. Marti in Leningrad. It was launched on December 5, 1957. Nuclear power plant installed in 1958 - 1959 years. In August 6, 1959 was launched the start of a nuclear reactor. In December 3, 1959 it passed to the Ministry of the Navy. Since 1960, it is as part of the Murmansk Shipping Company.

3 Due to the large capacity of the power plant and high autonomy, icebreaker in the first navigation showed excellent performance. The use of the nuclear icebreaker allows to significantly prolong navigation.

Icebreaker had a good cross through the ice. Only for the first 6 years of operation the icebreaker was over 82 thousand of nautical miles and turned more than 400 vessels across the ice. Total operating time was 654 thousand of miles, of which 563.6 thousand through the ice...

4 On the nuclear icebreaker "Lenin" two accidents occurred. The first occurred in February 1965. The reactor core was partially damaged. Part of the fuel was placed on the floating technical base "Lepse". The remaining fuel has been discharged and placed in a container. In 1967, the container was loaded onto a pontoon and sank in the Gulf of Tsivolki, east coast of Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

5 The second accident occurred on an icebreaker in 1967. Pipeline leak of III loop reactor was discovered. During the elimination of leaks were caused serious mechanical damage to the reactor equipment. It was decided to replace the entire reactor compartment. Part of the fuel was placed again on floating technical base "Lepse". Reactor facility was towed to Novaya Zemlya in the Gulf Tsivolki and flooded.

6. Icebreaker "Lenin" has worked for 30 years and in 1989 was decommissioned and put on eternal parking in Murmansk. Now icebreaker is a museum.

7. Moreover, a museum does not have a convenient schedule to visit. At least it was in 2009. On weekdays the last tour is at 12:00.
