Borisoglebsky – is a small settlement with a population of about 5.5 thousand people that is located 20 kilometers from Rostov the Great in the Yaroslavl region. The main attraction in village is Borisoglebsky Monastery, founded with the blessing of Sergius of Radonezh in 1363. Actually, the village itself arose only thanks to this monastery.

Now it is a functioning male Orthodox monastery, and in Soviet times it was used clearly not for its intended purpose: the postal offices, the branch of the State Bank, warehouses of organizations for the procurement of flax and grain, as well as the museum were placed here.

The greatest impression at the entrance to the monastery complex is the Gate Sretenskaya Church.

Once the Borisoglebsky monastery was one of the richest in the Rostov metropolia, nowadays there is a shortage of funds to restore the monastery. In the past it was а favorite residence among the Moscow princes and the first Russian tsars. It is worth noting that since the 17th century the architectural ensemble of the monastery has practically not changed.

To all tourists traveling to Rostov the Great or Yaroslavl, I sincerely recommend that you look into this nice village for at least an hour to see its main shopping street and the monastery of Boris and Gleb that is only 20 minutes drive from Rostov (on the way to Uglich).

In addition to the monastery, several stone buildings of the XIX century, including traditional for the cities of central Russia, are of interest in the village.
