The ancient city of Uglich is located by 110 kilometers from the Yaroslavl and is known for its ancient monasteries and temples.

It was founded in 937. According to legend, Prince Igor sent a small squad to the banks of the Volga River to collect tribute from the tribes living there. Voivode, who led the squad, chose a convenient place on the high and steep banks of the Volga. And soon there a fortified settlement appeared, which was necessary for the protection of the northern neighbors, the Baltic and Finno-Ugric tribes.

The city's name had probably gotten based on the location. And it is located in a picturesque location - on a headland, which was previously known as Uglich.

On the right bank of the river is the main attraction of the city - the Kremlin. From the east and the west, it is separated by a creek and a river.

Suzdal, indeed, may be called one of the jewels of white stone architecture. In the IX - X centuries near the Kamenka River a few Russian settlements had already located. The name of these settlements was "Suzdal". The origin of the name "Suzdal" is still a mystery. For the first time the name "Suzdal" was mentioned in one of the chronicles in 1024.

At various times, Suzdal was owned by Yaroslav the Wise and his son Vsevolod, Vladimir Monomakh, Yuri Dolgoruky and Andrew Bogolyubsky. Andrew Bogolyubsky aspired to make Suzdal as the center of Russia. There is a legend that tells why the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary temple appeared in Vladimir, but not in Suzdal. On the way from Kiev to Suzdal, Andrei Bogolyubsky’s horses suddenly stopped near the city of Vladimir. From Kiev to Suzdal Bogolyubskii carried the icon of the Mother of God. Andrew spent the whole night in prayer before the icon. That same night, the Mother of God appeared to him and punished, that an icon should be left in Vladimir. So in 1158 the Assumption Church appeared in Vladimir.

Anapa was founded as a Greek colony Gorgippia in the 18th century BC. Until the middle of the XVIII century, this land has had time to change a lot of hosts, from the Turkic nomads to the Italian merchants. Only in the second half of the 19th century, the territory of the eastern Black Sea region became the part of the Russian Empire, after which there was a mass colonization of these lands by the Cossacks, Tartars, Armenians and Greek. The traditional occupations of the locals were fishing, hunting, beekeeping, livestock breeding and trade. Since the beginning of XIX century, the city of Anapa has been known in Russia not only as a health resort.

Russia, Russian Federation... but would be this country now, if not a great feat of our parents and grandparents? We can have different opinions about the well-known figure of the Great Patriotic War, Stalin, Zhukov, Voroshilov or Antonov. But one thing we cannot do in any case we must not forget the feat of arms of citizens, soldiers and officers, through which the enemy was defeated.

In this article I would like to remind you about the Hero Cities of Russia. What does "Hero City" mean? "Hero City" is the highest rank, that city can be worthy, with the fact that during the Great Patriotic War, the city heroically resisted the invaders.

The first Hero Cities, even before the official end of the Second World War (09.05.1945), and before the introduction of the official honorary title of "Hero City" (08.05.1965), in May 1, 1945, Odessa, Stalingrad (now Volgograd), Leningrad (Saint Petersburg), Sevastopol was named.

Next, I will give a list of all Hero Cities with the dates. I have decided not to exclude the city from the history, which today are located in the territory of neighboring States, because I believe we are the same people who have a common history.

For a start, before discussing the cities of Russia directly, I would like to deal with the term itself, what the industry is.

Industry is a priority sector of the economy, the impact of which on the level of the productive capacity is difficult to overestimate. The industry is a constellation of industrial facilities that produce raw materials or tool for processing raw material.

Read the article: "Russia - Alaska: The bridge across the bering strait".
